Iron Infusions

Treating iron deficiency when tablets are not enough

Iron infusions may be recommended when iron deficiency cannot be effectively corrected with oral iron supplements.

At Sunny Health, our doctors can assess whether an iron infusion is appropriate and arrange treatment within the clinic when suitable.

When might an iron infusion be recommended?

Iron infusions may be considered for patients who:

• have significant iron deficiency
• cannot tolerate iron tablets due to side effects
• have not responded adequately to oral iron supplements
• require faster correction of iron levels

Your doctor will determine whether this treatment is appropriate based on your symptoms, medical history, and blood test results.

What to expect

An initial consultation with one of our doctors is required to assess whether an iron infusion is appropriate.

During this appointment, your doctor will review your symptoms, medical history, and blood test results. If treatment is recommended, the infusion can usually be arranged within the clinic.

During the procedure, iron is administered through a drip into a vein while you are comfortably seated. Our team will monitor you during the infusion and provide guidance on any follow-up care or blood tests that may be required.

Cost

The fee for an iron infusion at Sunny Health is $280.

Patients may be eligible for a Medicare rebate of $84.90, resulting in an approximate out-of-pocket cost of $195.10.

Please note that a consultation with one of our doctors is required first to assess whether an iron infusion is appropriate. Consultation fees may apply where bulk billing is not available.

Recent blood tests confirming iron deficiency may also be required before treatment can be arranged.

If you have any questions about fees, our reception team will be happy to assist.
