Skin Biopsy
Assessing skin lesions and unusual skin changes
A skin biopsy involves removing a small sample of skin so it can be examined more closely.
At Sunny Health, our doctors can assess suspicious moles, lesions, or other skin changes and perform biopsies within the clinic when appropriate.
When might a skin biopsy be recommended?
A skin biopsy may be recommended if your doctor identifies:
• a mole or skin lesion that appears unusual
• a spot that has changed in size, shape, or colour
• a skin growth that requires further investigation
• a persistent skin condition that needs diagnosis
Your doctor will examine the area and determine whether a biopsy is appropriate.
What to expect
An initial consultation with one of our doctors is required to assess the skin lesion and determine whether a biopsy is appropriate.
If recommended, the procedure can usually be performed within the clinic using local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort.
Your doctor will explain the procedure, discuss possible risks, and provide instructions for aftercare.
Cost
Skin biopsies generally involve a private procedure fee, as most procedures are not bulk billed.
There is usually an out-of-pocket cost of around $50, although the final amount may vary depending on the type of biopsy performed. The exact cost will be confirmed before the procedure is arranged.
Please note that an initial consultation with one of our doctors is required to assess whether the biopsy is appropriate. Consultation fees may apply where bulk billing is not available.
If you have any questions about fees, our reception team will be happy to assist.
Book a consultation
If you have a skin lesion, lump, ingrown toenail, or other concern that may require minor surgery, please book a consultation with one of our doctors for assessment.
